At Home With Mrs. Kilgore

Drinks and Ice

Happy Friday! Welcome to my Martini Moment!

Today I'm talking easy holiday DIY decor and the perfect Christmas martini!

Let's get the drink recipe out of the way so we can have something to sip the rest of this post shall we?

1 cup chocolate milk

1 oz chocolate liqueur

1/2 oz peppermint liqueur

Add everything in a shaker with ice and simply pour.

For the rim: rim the glass with chocolate syrup and roll in crushed candy canes

Fast Tip: To make this drink hot, just swap the milk for hot cocoa!

Now, not only is this DIY fast, easy, and chic it's also inexpensive. All you need is a glue gun, clear color fill, and either branches from outside or picked up at the craft store. And maybe some candles. Get as creative as you want! All you do is glue the branches and roll in the color fill. It makes for chic icy décor, also it's colorless so it can go in just about any room. If you're feeling froggy add some pine. I have an abundance in my back yard so I thought why not?

Cheers to you and cheers to the weekend!

In Vino Veritas

Which is Latin for "in wine, truth".

That's one of my favorite sayings. Ha! Today's "Martini Moment" is all about wine! My typical drink of choice. I'm talking wine because next week is Thanksgiving already! So if you're hosting or just need a few good options to take to the hostess I've made you a cheat sheet. Wine selections can be very complicated which can leave you in the wine aisle blankly staring off into space.

It's no secret that I am a red wine drinker but more specifically Spanish wine, nothing like a Rioja for me. But if you aren't certain of where to go with a red stick with a Bordeaux or Merlot. They are both in the middle of light and juicy and heavy or full bodied.

Now for white wines, stick with a Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc. Same goes for these, right in the middle. If all else fails and you still just aren't sure, grab a semi-dry champagne.

Fast Tip: Sometimes it can be hard to know how much wine to have on hand. If you are hosting Thanksgiving or even just a larger party, buy eight bottles per 12 adults. Four bottles of red and four white.

Brunch Heaven

This past weekend was pretty busy. It was my first weekend without a wedding since oh I don't know like June.  So between some other shoots,  starting the long process of moving my clothes into the closet and having my best friends birthday brunch, it was a crazy weekend!

Back to brunch. As I was making my brunch menu I came across this perfect fall brunch salad. It's easy, chic, and not to mention delicious!

  • 1 romaine heart
  • 1/2 chopped apple
  • 2 pieces crumbled bacon
  • 2 Tbsp chopped walnuts
  • 2 Tbsp gorgonzola cheese
  • 1 Tbsp thin sliced red onion

Mix all of this together and simply sprinkle on to your uncut romaine heart. I paired this with a pear and gorgonzola dressing. Perfection!

Have a chic week!
