My Martini Moment

Add Some Heat

Hey, hey! Happy Friday Pretties!

Making cocktails is so much more to me than throwing together a drink. I love to play with flavors and see what works and maybe what doesn’t. I had a whole different drink planned for this week but I simply had to share this one. Catching myself craving a spicy watermelon margarita, I knew it just had to be the drink this week.

Let’s start with the syrup. I love to concoct all kinds of different syrups for drinks and this one is pretty amazing.

  • 1/4 cup water

  • 1/4 cup sugar (or Stevia)

  • 1/2 jalapeño, chopped

  • Sprig of fresh Rosemary

  • A few dashes of Tajin

Simply bring to a boil and let simmer for a few minutes.

Now, get everything you’ll need out:

(I usually use Cointreau for my orange flavored liquor but just ran out so had to use silly Triple Sec)

what you do:

  1. Throw a few pieces of watermelon and jalapeño in a shaker and muddle.

  2. Add ice, booze, lime juice, and simple syrup.

  3. Shake, shake, shake!

  4. Rim the glass with Tajin, garnish with jalapeño and lime.

  5. Fill glass with ice (I had to settle for not cute ice because my very cute ice unexpectedly …melted), and strain into the chosen glass.

    Enjoy your weekend! Cheers!

Fall in a Glass

It’s finally Fall!

It may have started yesterday but today is the first full day of fall. Which means I’m making you fall in a glass.

Fun fact: my Grandma gave me these glasses from her youth and I love them deeply. Anywho, let’s get started. First we have to brûlée the oranges…

Simple enough, right? Now on to the syrup. Usually when I make a syrup I use a sugar and water along with the flavors but today I’m subbing out the sugar for maple syrup. Throw everything in a skillet and boil for about five minutes. Let cool, and it’s cocktail time.

There might be a little leg work involved with this drink but it’s worth it and once your oranges and syrup are done it’s very fast.

All you do here is throw everything in a cocktail shaker with a few ice cubes and shake, shake, shake! Then, just strain into a glass and garnish with your choice of cinnamon sticks, oranges, and/or fresh rosemary.

When it comes to the bourbon that I used, I obviously consulted MK since that’s his realm. He chose Weller Antique and it was a very good decision.

I hope you all have a fantastic first weekend in fall of 2022. Here’s to wishing it’s full of all the fall things, good drinks, and great company.

Cheers!

Whiskeyed Away

Happy Friday, Friends!

In honor of my Husband hanging out in Kentucky, Land of Bourbon, I thought I’d dedicate this weeks “Martini Moment” to just that. I’m bringing you two very fast, very delicious whiskey cocktails. The first is a super easy Mule.

what you do:

  1. In a copper mug, add ice, bourbon (I used Weller Special Reserve) and fresh lime juice. Then stir.

  2. Top with Ginger beer (I always use Fever Tree), and garnish with fresh mint (taken from my patio).

    Enjoy!

    Next up…

Not that I don’t love a Mule, however, this one of the two was surly my favorite…

what you do:

  1. Add whiskey (I used Jack Daniels Single Barrel), lemon juice, triple sec, and simple syrup to a shaker full of ice.

  2. Shake, shake, shake!

  3. Strain into a glass also full of ice, and then add lemon-lime soda.

  4. Garnish with fresh lemon.

    Enjoy!

I had so much fun making these drinks. I usually don’t use bourbon when making cocktails but this reminds me that I should do so more often.

I hope you have a fantastic, fun filled weekend!
