Summer Must-Haves

Ahhh June, the official month of Summer…

The change of a season is always exciting and the fun of summer is no exception. And now that we are able to start gathering again and doing things like going out to eat I thought I’d talk about five things your closet should have in it for this soon approaching season.

  1. Something Pistachio

This fabulous color made it’s big debut last Fall and has ever so effortlessly made it’s way into Spring and Summer. It’s light and airy vibe is perfect for that much anticipated night out. This is also a great color for a monochrome look. Plus it’s a green and you guys know a freakin’ love green.

2. A Bright, Easy, Dress

  1. Running around and don’t really have the time to think about an outfit? Enter the flows, satin dress. The bright color is uplifting and perfect for a hot day as it flows. Find this fab purple number at Target!

3. Signature Sunnies!

Now, I never leave the house without sunglasses. Rain, clouds, snow? Doesn’t matter I always have them on when I leave the house. But these babies are going to be my signature summer sunglasses look. The perfect pop of red!

4. That Flat

  1. It has never been a secret that I am a heel girl, however, if you’re headed to that BBQ heels simply aren’t a good idea (don’t think I haven’t don it though). Have the perfect comfortable flat that you know will go with everything. Mine? Feathers, of course.

5. Dressy & Casual Hat

Oh I love a good hat. I’ve said it before, I love them so much it was my first word. If you follow me on insta you’ve seen both hats of mine before because they are my favorites! My “casual” hat was a gift and is so perfect for a BBQ. And I can’t help but love the dragonfly and bees! My “dressy” hat is a classic black and white stripe and sure to go with everything. Hats look great but what’s even more important is to protect that face!

I hope you all have a super chic week and enjoy the warm sunny weather!

Inspiration in a Likely Place

Okay, unpopular opinion: I’m really not a fan of Sex and the City. There I said it. I was just telling my friend the other day that after watching it so many times, the older I get the more it get’s on my nerves. I find the characters extremely self centered and whiney, and the friendships pretty toxic. Don’t get me started about Carrie actually marrying the guy who left her at the alter because, why? He couldn’t see her face? Weirdo. Now I’m not saying there aren’t some redeeming qualities about the show but watching it as an established adult it’s maybe not so much for me.

However, most of the time the fashion is to die for. Especially Carrie’s wardrobe. Which after my rant, brings me around to my point. In the opening scene of Sex and the City movie when “Big” and Carrie are looking for an apartment, she has on such a gorgeous coat. I immediately thought “ohh I want to make a version of that!”. The emerald green stunner is made my Betsy Johnson.

If you know me or my family then you know my Mom is a very talented seamstress by trade. So I sent her photos of the coat asking if we could make something like it. We talked about fabrics and lining and make a decision. Last May, for my birthday she gifted me with all the fabric, and worked out times with MK that he could be home with Theo. We were all set. Keep in mind I’m tired and pregnant in these photos, haha!

I think it took about 4ish sessions to create the coat. I loved the print because I felt the colors would work for just about all the seasons. The things that I made different about my coat than the original are I made mine a little longer, along with making the sleeve length longer. We also didn’t do as crazy of a lapel.

Big thanks to my Mom Deb for helping make this idea come to life. I’m thrilled to have this piece forever.

Hey, maybe I’ll start wearing it to the living room. Haha!

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you’re all doing well!

The Skirt of the Summer

Hello Tuesday!

I don’t know about you but I sure could use a do over from yesterday. Between a not sleeping Theo Sunday night and growing a human it was a very unproductive Monday for me.  So today...I do all the things.

Glamour, Huff Post, The Cut, even The Zoe Report have made pretty clear that the leopard midi is the skirt of the summer I thought it would be a perfect time to do “Skirts” for the Dior Dictionary Word this week.

I always think how interesting it is to look at how most people looked at fashion back in 1954 when Dior wrote this book. I feel fashion has become far more relaxed and while I usually don’t agree with that, this time I really don’t agree with how strict this sounds when wearing a skirt. If you love a skirt and feel good in it then girl, wear it!

One thing that I just love that Dior says is that “Like everything is fashion your clothes must always give you the feeling that they are easy to wear.”  I think this is the big take away here and that is something that will never get outdated. You have to feel good in what you’re wearing and it should feel effortless. While it’s very true this skirt won’t fit me much longer it was the perfect thing to wear while running errands with MK.

I hope you all have a fantastic Tuesday thats productive, short, and ends with a glass of vino.
